...while WALKING on the SIDEWALK (yes, sidewalk) going to BART (that's right, public transit) during critical mass.

Not once, but twice by two different people.

Please, please, please, try to herd the massholes that are ruining your event.

They are starting to ruin what was a brilliant way to voice an opinion.

What exactly did your husband say or yell to the cyclists that pissed them off enough to punch him I wonder? I'd like to hear the rest of the story please...

He didn't say or yell anything. He was just walking on the sidewalk during critical mass when a group of cyclists came on the sidewalk. The group walking was trying to get out of the cyclists way when a few of the people got punched by some people on bikes.

Why do you assume he yelled at them?

I know just about all the people in critical mass have excellent intentions. I am just trying to let you guys know that there are a few bad eggs and to keep an eye out.

Very sorry to hear of this random act of violence. Unfortunately there is a small cadre who are called many things..."the testosterone brigade" or just fucking assholes who think it's OK to rage when they're en masse and the tables are turned. Hope Icky wasn't injured!

He was a bit sore but not injured beyond that. Thanks.

I think it's a problem when you get any large group of any people together. Though it is possible to have a large protest without any problems. For some reason it gives people a sense of annonimity. They feed off the energy, turn it into something bad, and then lash out in a way that was never intended at that event. It sucks.

I must say I'm really stunned.

I've seen Critical Massers do some stupid things,...um myself included. But I've never seen anyone hurt a bystander on purpose. I can't even begin to understand that kind of behavior.

I'm feel bad for assuming your husband provoked the attack. I am sorry.

I think the more important question is, "why were the bicyclists on the sidewalk?" Get off of it -- Critical Mass or not, bikes are not allowed on the sidewalks.
