06/24I saw you naked man!
Welcome!
I thought mass was a mess tonight.
We need to go where the cars are not the people trying to cross streets. The Union Square thang really critical mess!
See you next month! -

Re: 6-24
06/25I didn't get to go to last night's Mass. Alas, I was at work.
Wendee, the segment that encircles Union Square and wreaks havoc has a slight history tie-in with Asshole Willie Brown. He was soooo anti-bicycle ... and during the protests, he was adamant about protecting Union Square that he had the friggin thang staffed with security to the teeth ... never mind the safety of the remainder of the City -- he looked after his little pet project and kept all those scary bicycle riders away.

Re: 6-24
06/26Yeah, Wendee! You're right. I've always thought the ride is best when people -- some people, any people -- prepare a route ahead of time, and get us out of the trafficky downtown and into the neighborhoods and at a cool destination with some time to socialize! Wanna plan a route for next month?

Re: 6-24
06/27Oh, gotta dissent here, I -loved- last week's Mass.
Union square was wild, and a -great- way to lose our police "escort". We got amazing reactions from the tourists and folks around! I haven't gotten such a positive reaction from bystanders since last year's World Naked Bike Ride SF.
Sure, it was congested and kinda messy, but CritMass isn't really about being neat. Be careful, use your bike handling, have fun!
As for leading the ride, ugh. Best of luck. One of my favorite things the frist time I attended was how a gaggle of roadies tried to lead us along their favored way and were totally blown off when the ride just left going the opposite direction.
Bike lane proponents lead the ride down 3rd street to a political destination two months ago, and it was just sad. Yeah, big empty streets. And really, really boring.
If you wanna have a destination and socialize, Zeitgeist is open all the time. To me, Critmass has always been about riding in a city, in traffic, at rush hour. I'd rather not see that go away.
Oh, and hey, where'd the folks who headed down Van Ness end up? I split for the Haight with the Sound System. -

Re: 6-24
06/27Last weeks mass felt strong to me. I'm good for one revolution around union square and then I'm ready to split. I stayed with the main body then I broke off in the mission, got a slice of Arnells and then went home. definately a good experience.....

Re: 6-24
06/28I don't think CM is about being neat, Please.
We did not lose our police escort...just so you know! I was in the back of the pack for the ride!
I don't know about leading a CM, is that possible? Who in the hell would follow!
I just know I want drivers to see all of us that are on two wheels! Yes, the fan fair was great in downtown, but I like it when we do a little more traffic blocking!

Re: 6-24
06/28Yeah, I can definately agree about traffic blocking. Other times I've participated in blocking way more, but this time I was being way more low key about everything. Next mass I'll try and help out more.
It's probably important to remember that if there are too many cars in the way, folks can't see us as well!
As for leading a CM, folks have tried, some have even accomplished it. Apparently, one effective trick is to two 75lbs of speakers behind your bike.

Re: 6-24
06/25I saw you, too!! I wasn't on the ride (I do often go), but I happened to be at Pakwan (YUM!) at Geary and Jones when you all went by. 2 naked guys on one ride is pretty good!! -

Re: 6-24
06/28Well, as disappointed as I am that I didn't get to ride in Mass on Friday, I did get to ride with Mikes On Bikes in the parade. A small consolation. Usually, I like to ride in both.

Re: 6-24
06/30I'm not working on Monday.....but I might still be moving.
(I'm moving 2 blocks from where I am not)
I may need a break and a nice ride would be a good thing!
I really want another carmel apple! but that part of town makes me nuts. Maybe we could go to the bridge and back! -

Re: 6-24
06/30Any interest in riding to the beach and back? Yeah, yeah, I know, I do that ride all the time, but I tell ya, it really clears my stress away.
Or ... sumfin ...
