RIDE FOR CHANGE!

A BIKE RIDE THROUGH HAWAII’S PAST AND PRESENT

Do you have a passion for social change? Do you want to learn about sustainability and justice directly from the land and the people closest to that land? Do you want to experience hands on education about American society, ecology and human communities? If your answers are yes, then Bike Aid Hawai`i is for you!

Riders will pedal around O`ahu and the Big Island from December 12-22, 2005. We will be staying with host families and organizations along the way and providing service projects as a way of giving back to them. Some of the goals of the ride are:

<sum> To travel by bicycle as a means of promoting sustainable transportation.

<sum> To work with the Kanaka Maoli (native Hawaiians) to help them preserve their identity, cultural history and connection with their homeland.

<sum> To assist the Hawaiian’s we meet in networking with one another and with those on the mainland around common causes by providing a mobile link between them.

<sum> To generate positive press about living sustainably with the earth and about the rights of indigenous peoples.

Bike Aid is a program of Global Exchange, an international human rights organization working to build people to people ties. Participants raise a minimum of $2000 USD in pledges to cover program costs such as donations to families who provide us shelter. (This does not including air fare). All additional funds raised go to support Global Exchange’s Public Education programs.
